In this article, you have the weights and measures of the packaging before shipping with Bob Travel. In order to correctly ship a package, it is necessary to take into account the maximum size allowed as well as the final weight of the package. We will help you with some tips on how to measure and weigh your bags.
Do I have to weigh my bag?
Our carriers will weigh your bags during pick-up and will inform you in case they exceed the weight allowed in your reservation. You can adjust the weight or accept payment at the airport. We recommend that you weigh your bags as much as possible before our carrier arrives, as this will make the pick-up process faster and more efficient.
Keep in mind that your bags cannot weigh more than 32 kg since the airline will not accept them, and therefore neither will we.
How to weigh your bag
You will need to use a scale, if you do not have a baggage scale, you can use a regular scale. Simply weigh yourself without the lump, then weigh yourself with the lump and calculate the difference – it’s that easy! Whenever you have doubts about the final weight to declare, we recommend that you include a comfortable surplus when you make the quotation on Bob’s website.
Please note that if your packages weigh more than what you have indicated in the booking, this may delay the delivery and you may have to pay additional costs.
If a variation between the declared dimensions and weight is detected, there may be a variation in the final weight known as a kilogram adjustment. The delivery would be retained by the transport agencies until the payment of the added cost.
We recommend that you take a photo of your packages showing the weight and dimensions of the packaging on the scale. This way you will have a record in case a discrepancy occurs.
What is the maximum weight allowed per bag?
When you book your airline ticket or add baggage to your free baggage allowance, the airline will tell you the maximum weight of your baggage allowance.
It is very important that you make sure that you do not exceed these guidelines, as the price at the counter for excess baggage is very high.
Remember that the maximum weight for checked baggage is 32 kilos. Most airlines will not accept a higher weight, even if you want to pay for it.
How to measure your bag
The easiest way to see the measurements of the packaging is to use a tape measure or a ruler. You should take into account the length, width, and height of the package. If your bulk does not have a square or rectangular shape, simply take as a reference the highest, widest and longest part.
You may come across the concept of ‘volumetric weight’ at some point, don’t worry, it is simply a formula used by carriers to take into account both the volume and weight of a package. We take care of calculating it for you to make everything easier.
What happens if the package is overweight and/or oversized?
When you book your airline ticket or add baggage to your free baggage allowance, the airline will indicate the dimensions and maximum weight of your baggage allowance.
It is very important that you make sure that you do not exceed these guidelines, as the price at the counter for oversized or overweight baggage is very high.
In case you have any doubts, don’t worry. Our driver will check the weight of your baggage during pick-up to make sure it complies with your contract.
We can also handle the payment of excess baggage, overweight or oversized baggage at the counter for you:
- During pick-up we will weigh your luggage and, if any of it exceeds the weight allowance, we will withhold from the card you used to pay for the service the approximate amount that will be charged by the airline.
- Once at the counter, we will pay the final cost indicated by the airline.
- We will manage the collection reflected in the receipt plus the bank commissions for making the payment on your behalf.
- Finally, we will send you the receipt so that you have proof of payment.
